Presenter: Mike Babineaux 

Mike began his career in 1958 purchasing marine supplies and foodstuffs. In 1973 he was the first Buyer Federal Express hired. Mike has had his hand in most of FedEx purchasing over his 30 year career. Among his many accomplishment while at FedEx.

Architect of the Procurement Benchmarking Program that was instrumental in FedEx’s winning the 1990 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award

Led the EDI program that automated 70% of the company’s purchases

Represented the procurement function in FedEx’s successful ISO 9000 registration

Wrote the first Purchasing policy and procedure manual for FedEx

Held the project manager position to select and implement his company’s material management, procurement and payables systems

Mike has guest lectured at universities and has been guest speaker at purchasing and other professional association meetings as well as the ISM and PMAC International Purchasing Conferences. At the 88th ISM International Conference in 2003 Mike was awarded the prestigious Educational/Learning Person of the Year for his outstanding achievement and dedicated service to the Institute for Supply Management.
